Ghent is located in Flanders, around 50 kilometres from Brussels. With a population of 250,000, it is the main student city in the country, with its university and numerous colleges and further education establishments. Ghent industry has diversified thanks to its port, which has developed into the third largest in the country. With its magnificent railway station, Ghent is easily accessible from other Belgian towns and cities. The city is also easily accessible by car, situated as it is beside the E40 motorway, which links Brussels to Ostend. In Ghent itself, the easiest way to get around is by tram, since the city has three lines. Ghent is famous for its architecture.
